The BBC is recruiting a Digital Content Producer for BBC Hausa in Abuja as part of the BBC World Service’s expansion of its African and regional content.
The Digital Content Producer will play a key role in strengthening BBC Hausa’s digital video and visual storytelling capabilities. The successful candidate will be involved in researching, scripting, filming, editing, presenting, and publishing engaging content across multiple digital and social platforms.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced journalist or digital media professional who understands Hausa-speaking audiences and can create compelling, mobile-first content for audiences in Nigeria, across Africa, and the diaspora.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and deliver high-impact digital journalism across multiple platforms.
- Identify compelling news angles and simplify complex stories for digital audiences.
- Script, produce, film, edit, and publish video, audio, and social media content.
- Develop culturally relevant content for Hausa-speaking audiences across the region and diaspora.
- Produce engaging short-form, mid-form, and long-form digital video content.
- Create content for platforms including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X, and TikTok.
- Use audience insights, analytics, and performance data to improve content reach and engagement.
- Apply emerging technologies and AI-supported workflows to research, production, editing, and content development.
- Present and communicate stories effectively to digital audiences.
- Adapt storytelling formats and approaches to appeal to younger audiences and changing digital consumption habits.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, impartiality, editorial integrity, and quality.
- Work collaboratively with journalists, producers, editors, and other stakeholders.
- Manage multiple assignments and competing priorities in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
Requirements and Skills
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Proven experience creating high-performing digital content for social media and online platforms.
- Strong knowledge of audience engagement, digital growth, and content performance strategies.
- Excellent video production and editing skills.
- Experience using tools such as Final Cut Pro and QEdit.
- Strong storytelling, scripting, presentation, and editorial skills.
- Ability to create compelling visual and audio content for digital audiences.
- Strong understanding of younger audiences and their digital consumption habits.
- Experience using analytics and audience data to optimize content.
- Familiarity with AI tools and emerging technologies for research, content creation, editing, and production.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Hausa and English.
- Strong news judgement and attention to accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and multicultural environment.
- Adaptability and the ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines.
