Job Description
The Refinery Operator will be responsible for operating and monitoring refinery equipment used in soybean oil processing. The successful candidate will ensure production efficiency, maintain product quality, comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and support safe and hygienic refinery operations.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
- Operate and monitor refinery equipment, including:
- Degumming systems
- Neutralisers
- Bleachers
- Deodorisers
- Alkali refining systems
- Hydrogenation units
- Filtration systems
- Ensure efficient soybean oil processing while maintaining product quality.
Operational Excellence
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Perform routine equipment inspections.
- Report equipment faults and operational abnormalities promptly.
Quality Assurance
- Conduct regular quality checks on processed oil samples.
- Adjust processing parameters where necessary.
- Ensure products meet quality specifications.
- Implement corrective actions to maintain production standards.
Equipment Maintenance
- Support routine maintenance and equipment calibration.
- Work closely with the maintenance team on preventive maintenance schedules.
- Help minimise production downtime.
Hygiene and Housekeeping
- Maintain strict compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Clean equipment, pipelines, and processing areas regularly.
- Prevent contamination and maintain product purity.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all workplace safety procedures.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate production and quality records.
- Prepare daily shift reports.
- Document equipment adjustments and operational challenges.
Key Performance Areas (KPIs)
Performance will be measured based on:
- Achievement of production targets.
- Consistent production of high-quality soybean oil.
- Improved refinery efficiency and reduced processing time.
- Zero product spillage and waste.
- Cleanliness and organisation of the processing area.
- Reliability and availability of refinery equipment.
- Compliance with GMP standards.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- National Diploma (ND) or equivalent qualification.
- Additional certifications in food processing or related technical fields will be an advantage.
Experience
Candidates should have:
- Minimum of three years’ experience operating refinery equipment within the food processing or edible oil industry.
- Strong knowledge of soybean oil refining processes.
- Experience operating refinery equipment and troubleshooting production issues.
- Familiarity with PLC systems and panel controls is an added advantage.
