Primary School Teacher at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA)
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is recruiting to fill the position of Primary School Teacher in Ibadan, Oyo State. IITA is a not-for-profit agricultural research institution and a member of CGIAR, working with partners across sub-Saharan Africa to improve food security, livelihoods, employment, and natural resource management.
The Primary School Teacher will be responsible for creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment while delivering lessons aligned with the IITA School curriculum and the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a positive, disciplined, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Develop and submit lesson plans in accordance with the IB framework and course guidelines.
- Deliver engaging, student-centered lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum, policies, and standards.
- Use appropriate teaching resources and materials to support effective learning.
- Differentiate lessons to accommodate different abilities and learning styles.
- Clearly communicate lesson objectives and encourage student reflection and self-evaluation.
- Promote teamwork, collaboration, and independent learning among students.
- Integrate intercultural understanding into classroom activities.
- Maintain an organized, stimulating, and visually appealing learning environment.
- Collaborate with other teaching staff in lesson planning and classroom delivery.
- Assess students’ academic progress using a variety of assessment methods.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and development.
- Communicate with parents regarding concerns affecting students’ academic performance or well-being.
- Monitor and document students’ welfare and report significant concerns when necessary.
- Participate in teacher evaluations, peer observations, training programmes, professional courses, and conferences.
- Contribute to school improvement initiatives and share professional knowledge with colleagues.
- Participate in school meetings and assigned supervisory duties, including break-time supervision.
- Support extracurricular programmes and encourage parental participation in school activities.
- Respond appropriately to routine parent enquiries and uphold school policies.
- Deliver up to 25 out of 30 lessons per week as assigned.
Requirements
- BSc Degree in Education or a related field with a recognized teaching qualification.
- Minimum of three years’ teaching experience in an international school approved by a recognized international schools association or body.
- Experience with organizations or frameworks such as IBO, CIE, AISEN, COBIS, COIS, or AISA is advantageous.
- Teaching qualification recognized by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is an added advantage.
- Additional qualifications from international education organizations such as CIE or IBO will be beneficial.
- Strong understanding of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and learner-centered teaching approaches.
- Proven ability in lesson planning and student assessment.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to student well-being, safeguarding, and inclusive education.
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
