About the Role
This legal officer job Lagos opportunity is ideal for a proactive and detail-oriented legal professional who can manage corporate legal affairs, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive effective debt recovery processes. The successful candidate will play a key role in safeguarding the company’s legal interests while supporting business operations and revenue protection.
Key Responsibilities
As Legal Officer, you will provide legal advice on corporate, commercial, and operational matters, draft and negotiate contracts, agreements, and service level agreements with clients and vendors, and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
You will manage litigation and disputes, liaise with external counsel where required, and monitor legal risks while advising management on mitigation strategies. Working closely with the Finance and Operations teams, you will initiate and manage legal proceedings for debt recovery and support internal policy development and governance frameworks. The role also involves assisting with regulatory filings, licenses, statutory documentation, and providing legal support for HR matters including disciplinary actions and employment disputes.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B), have been called to the Nigerian Bar (BL), and maintain active membership of the Nigerian Bar Association. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of post-call experience is required, preferably within a corporate or security services environment. Proven experience in debt recovery, credit control, and litigation is essential, along with strong knowledge of Nigerian commercial and labor laws, excellent drafting and negotiation skills, and a high level of integrity and professionalism.
