Job Summary
The Assistant Production Manager will support the Production Manager in planning and coordinating manufacturing activities, supervising production teams, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring production targets are achieved efficiently and within set timelines.
The successful candidate must have strong practical knowledge of engineering and automobile production processes, as well as proven experience managing production activities in an automotive or manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Production Manager in planning and coordinating daily automobile production activities.
- Supervise production personnel and allocate manpower effectively.
- Monitor production schedules and ensure targets are achieved within specified timelines.
- Monitor assembly and manufacturing processes for compliance with approved specifications.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Control, Maintenance, Stores, and Procurement teams.
- Identify and report production delays, defects, equipment breakdowns, and process inefficiencies.
- Assist in reducing production downtime, waste, and operational costs.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of production machinery, tools, and equipment.
- Monitor raw-material usage and production inventory.
- Ensure production activities comply with HSE requirements and company procedures.
- Assist with quality inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Prepare daily and periodic production reports for management.
- Support the training, supervision, and performance evaluation of production staff.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives across production operations.
- Act as the Production Manager when required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant production or manufacturing experience.
- At least 3 years of direct, hands-on experience in automobile production or manufacturing.
- Proven experience supervising production teams in an automobile or manufacturing environment.
- Strong practical knowledge of engineering and automobile manufacturing processes.
- Good knowledge of vehicle assembly, automotive components, production machinery, tools, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and production documentation.
- Good understanding of production planning, quality control, process improvement, and preventive maintenance.
- Strong analytical, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of workplace safety and HSE requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant production or ERP software.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
Automobile Manufacturing Experience Required
Direct experience in automobile manufacturing is a major shortlisting criterion for this position.
Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience in automobile production/manufacturing. This experience will serve as a key yardstick for determining shortlisted candidates.
