Job Summary
EHA Clinics is seeking an Assistant Manager, Laboratory and Diagnostics to support the management and development of its laboratory services in Kano.
The successful candidate will help ensure the delivery of accurate, reliable, and high-quality diagnostic services while supervising laboratory personnel, supporting quality management systems, maintaining regulatory compliance, and contributing to the expansion of laboratory services.
The role will also support the Laboratory Manager in progressing toward international accreditation and improving laboratory operations, technology, and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Management and Operations
- Analyse laboratory operations and identify opportunities for service expansion and improvement.
- Manage External Quality Assurance programmes subscribed to by EHA Clinics.
- Develop and implement a Quality Management System and related SOPs and policies in line with ISO 15189 accreditation requirements.
- Set up and maintain the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for specimen tracking, result entry, and reporting.
- Support the introduction and implementation of new laboratory initiatives and technologies.
- Liaise with software teams to maintain laboratory interfaces, LIMS, and other laboratory-related systems.
Quality Assurance and Diagnostics
- Maintain high standards of laboratory quality, accuracy, and reliability.
- Run appropriate standards and controls to maintain quality results.
- Verify equipment functionality through routine maintenance and advanced troubleshooting.
- Calibrate laboratory equipment using approved testing procedures.
- Monitor quality control measures and laboratory protocols.
- Draft, review, and enforce laboratory SOPs.
- Review logs and registers to ensure compliance with established procedures.
- Prepare laboratory performance and quality reports for executive review.
- Investigate non-conformities and patient complaints and implement appropriate corrective actions.
Staff and Patient Engagement
- Supervise and support laboratory scientists, technicians, and other laboratory personnel.
- Support Human Resources activities relating to laboratory recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding.
- Promote a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and employees.
- Interact with patients and family members professionally, compassionately, and respectfully.
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to support effective patient care.
Procurement and Inventory Management
- Manage procurement of laboratory tests and consumables.
- Organise vendor information, quotations, and proformas.
- Maintain appropriate laboratory inventory levels.
- Support effective management of laboratory supplies and resources.
Business Development
- Identify opportunities to acquire new customers and clients.
- Support revenue growth through expansion of laboratory services.
- Improve market penetration and customer engagement.
- Contribute to initiatives designed to strengthen the laboratory’s service offering.
Professional Development and Compliance
- Maintain a valid professional licence in line with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate in continuing professional development activities.
- Ensure laboratory activities comply with relevant professional and regulatory standards.
Requirements and Qualifications
Candidates for the Assistant Manager, Laboratory and Diagnostics position should meet the following requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Laboratory Science from an accredited university.
- At least 3 years of work experience in a medical laboratory, clinic, or hospital.
- Additional training or experience in molecular diagnostic techniques, such as PCR, is required.
- Certification from the Associate of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (AMLSCN).
- Must possess a current practising licence.
- Relevant additional professional certifications will be an added advantage.
