Finance Officer at Solina Centre for International Development and Research (SCIDaR)
Solina Centre for International Development and Research (SCIDaR) is an indigenous nonprofit organisation focused on advancing health, social, and economic development through high-quality programme implementation, capacity building, research, knowledge generation, and stakeholder engagement.
SCIDaR is recruiting a Finance Officer to provide technical and financial management support across its projects. The role involves financial reporting, budget management, project accounting, regulatory and donor compliance, expenditure monitoring, cash management, and financial analysis.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Finance and Programme Managers to ensure effective and efficient use of organisational and project resources in line with SCIDaR’s financial policies and donor requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management and Reporting
- Support implementation of SCIDaR’s finance strategy across assigned projects.
- Prepare monthly project reconciliations and coordinate month-end reporting activities.
- Analyse and interpret financial information and provide recommendations to support management decision-making.
- Perform analytical procedures on key financial statement accounts.
- Work with Programme Managers to plan, budget, and monitor project costs.
- Support continuous improvement of financial management systems, processes, and quality assurance procedures.
- Manage financial metrics, KPIs, and reports for assigned projects.
Audit and Compliance
- Review financial transactions and reports to ensure compliance with donor requirements and applicable laws.
- Work with the internal audit team to identify and minimise financial risks.
- Support internal and external audit reviews and implementation of audit recommendations.
- Develop and implement financial controls to ensure programme expenses comply with SCIDaR policies and donor rules.
Financial Administration
- Prepare payment schedules and verify beneficiary payment information.
- Prepare and remit statutory deductions in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Prepare monthly invoices and billing for assigned projects.
- Prepare monthly intercompany personnel invoices.
Information Security Responsibilities
The Finance Officer will be expected to support SCIDaR’s information security practices by following established security policies, participating in required training, protecting organisational data and systems, reporting security incidents or suspicious activities, and applying secure information-handling practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Financial Accounting, Economics, or a related Social Sciences discipline.
- Additional professional accounting qualification or certification such as ACCA or ICAN.
- 2–3 years of progressive experience in a similar finance role.
- At least 1 year of experience in an audit role.
- Experience in strategy and financial management within a leading consulting firm is a major advantage.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and logical reasoning skills.
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet navigation, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience using accounting systems such as QuickBooks, SAGE, or similar platforms.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience managing accounting records and financial reporting for organisations and donor-funded projects.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Results-oriented approach with experience setting and tracking KPIs.
- Ability to learn quickly and collaborate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
